Numeracy partners

Work experience at a joinery

Numeracy partners are businesss volunteers who give up one lunchtime a week to work one-to-one with a student who needs a little extra support.

Numeracy partners are similar to reading partners except that they support children with number and maths skills rather than literacy.

Benefits to students

  • Individual help with numeracy skills
  • Increase self-confidence and motivation
  • Increase aspiration as a result of getting to know someone from the business world.
  • Extra confidence in working something out on thier own

Benefits to numeracy partners

  • The satisfaction of helping a young student develop their skills
  • A chance to give something back to the community
  • A regular, rewarding break from the working day
  • The chance to be part of a team of other volunteers

How it works

It's easy to join the numeracy partners project. We'll help your company recruit employees to participate in the scheme· Southwark EBA will set up the partnership by matching your company to a Southwark primary school.

  • Southwark EBA will run an hour long training session during a lunchtime at your offices.
  • Training offers practical ways on how to support children with reading and maths and provides important information on child protection issues.
  • Southwark EBA handles the Disclosure and Barring Service checks which are required when working with young people.
  • Southwark EBA provides ongoing support to the company and school partners and end of year evaluations
