Work Related Learning

Southwark Education Business Alliance are committed to delivering work related learning activities to primary and secondary schools throughout the academic year.


There is a large variety of projects companies can get involved in, to help expand their employees experience and share their knowledge to the future generations.

Secondary School Projects:

  • Construction project (STEM- orientated), need to involve 3- 4 schools – September start all year around
  • Borough Market Project- delivered twice with a Christmas and Easter theme
  • Apprenticeship Road show – available to all schools in Southwark – Once a month
  • WEX workshops for students – 3 months before schools out for WEX
  • 16 Plus work related learning- Book sector based workshops for 16 plus students to attend, have already booked monthly media, looking for law, accountancy and construction – need more professions!
  • Financial capability workshops – Delivered two Thursday a month (2nd & 3rd) Volunteers to sign up.
  • Mock interviews and CV workshops – twice a month on Tuesday – Need volunteers to sign up
  • General mentoring and language mentoring – whole year commitment, fortnightly or once a month. Mentor sessions are carried out on school premises
  • Business speakers for secondary schools– need volunteers to sign up, twice a month on Tuesdays
  • Employability fair- secondary school in early March, over two days. Employers can commit to one day or both days. 1200 students; employers to deliver workshops – companies to sign up
  • Work experience (WEX) – Placement required for existing schools, potential schools and 6 Forms. June / July are the busiest period.
  • 6 Form events
  • Subjects in the City – teachers and business to meet and discuss curriculum
  • WEX for Y11 (school leavers) -  employers required to offer the full work experience, CV, application form, interviews etc. - Mid July – August four to five weeks

Primary School Projects:

  •  Primary Business visits – Invite a primary school to your offices; give them the opportunity to see a live working environment - one Friday a month.
  • Southwark Aspirations Week –Help deliver workshops at primary schools to help start the conversation of why people go work. Parents will be invited to attend – Once a term: workshops consist of
  • My journey through education
  • Identifying abilities and skills for the world of work
  • Goals, visions and opportunities
  • Primary school Careers fair – take part in a Primary school careers fair aimed at year 6 students. Interact with the students on your business and what you do, parents will be invited – 22nd June
  • Primary enterprise project - primary school once a term
  • Reading and numeracy mentors – Scheme runs throughout the year – weekly or fortnightly
  • Business speakers for Primary school –Get the conversation started about different working environment - two Tuesday a month
  • Financial awareness – introduce the basics of financial terms and deliver a short activity to primary students - one Thursday a month
